What's On My Face? - Cleansers

Cleansing Oil vs. Cleansing Balm by

I'm a bit late to the cleansing oil / balm party, but as they say... better late than never, right?

I've always been a bit wary of what I put on my face, as one false move and my skin could get super dry / super oily /  blotchy / flakey / all of the above.

I'd heard about cleansing oils, and as I have oily skin, I thought that cleansing oils would be something to stay away from. I'd also heard about cleansing balms, however since moving to Hong Kong, I have no idea where to find anything anymore. I miss Boots and Selfridges Beauty Hall!

Anyway, I did manage to get my hands on both an oil and a balm in the form of: Clinique's Take The Day off Cleansing Balm and also The Body Shop's Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil and... I'm kinda liking both. Actually correction, I love the Clinique Cleansing Balm. In fact, the tub in the picture above is empty! That's how much I loved it. I'm still working on the cleansing oil, but so far so good.

Both do an amazing job of taking every trace of make-up off - even waterproof mascara - seriously, it's like magic! In my opinion though, Clinique leaves my face feeling cleaner.

Ok, let me give you a little more detail about each of them...

CLINIQUE - Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm
No fuss, no frills, just straight up cleansing. Starts off as a solid balm but warms up into a oily-ish consistency when you rub it into your face. Wipes off easily but with an almost milky-ish consistency.

- Leaves my face feeling squeaky clean.
- Unscented (I like the fact that it's unscented, so a pro in my opinion)
- Easy to use
- No additional eye make-up remover required as this takes off my waterproof mascara
- Removes any trace of sunscreen
- Doesn't leave my skin too dry or too oily. It's just right

- Didn't last that long. Maybe I was using too much with each cleanse?

THE BODY SHOP - Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil
I've only been using this for about a week, so I don't have a fully formed opinion about it yet, but this is what I think so far...

- Wallet-friendly. Cheaper (but just as effective as other more expensive cleansing oils - or so I've heard)
- Easy to use. Two pumps into the palm of your hand is all you need
- Doesn't leave an oily film on the skin
- No additional eye make-up remover required as this also takes off my waterproof mascara

- The pump leaks so when you press down so the bottle gets all oily.

I don't think I can fully express how much I enjoy cleansing my face, and Clinique's Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm makes it even more enjoyable.

I reckon I'll keep using Bodyshop's Cleansing Oil for now and once it's finished I'll be most definitely repurchasing the Clinique Balm.

On that note, I'm off to cleanse my face now.
