LA Adventures: BEAUTY HAUL... and some other stuff

It's been about a month since now since I got back from LA, and it's taken me this long to sit down and do a mini haul post on what I bought whilst in La-La land. I didn't do much shopping on this trip, but I did manage to go to Sephora which was at the top of my 'Shops to go to' list.

If you're sitting comfortably, I'll do a quick run down of the things I bought... ready?

1. Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 15
I'd heard lots of good things about this primer and really wanted to try it. So I bought the travel size version to see if it would live up to the hype. Spoiler alert - it did! This is a big claim, but for my skin, I think this is the best primer I have ever used. All other primers can go home now. I'm probably going to write a separate post all about the goodness of this primer.

2. Urban Decay All Nighter Long-lasting Setting Spray
In the heat and humidity of Hong Kong, I had two options to stop make-up melting off my face - 1) Stop wearing make-up or 2) try this product. So far, so good. Again I only bought the travel size.

3. NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer  in Ginger
I already love this concealer and just bought this one as a replacement as my current one is running out.

4. Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Concealer
Again, like most of my purchases I had heard good things about this budget buy. Watching beauty vloggers on YouTube makes you want things you never knew you needed.

5. First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads
I already use these, and just wanted to buy the travel sized version.

6. Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain in Always Red
I love a bold lip and I love a matte lip, so this is perfect. A bright red that stays matte with minimal drying effect on the lips.

7. Sephora Collection Luster Matte Long-wear Lip Colour in Mulberry
8. Sephora Collection Luster Matte Long-wear Lip Colour in Scarlett
I actually bought these two by mistake, oops. I actually was looking for item no. 6 and thought that these were the ones. Oh well, it's not a bad mistake to make as I still like the colours.

9. Clinique Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balm in Roly Poly Rosy
Lately, I've moved away from powder blushers in favour of creamy / balm textures. This is basically a giant crayon for your cheeks. What could be easier!

10. Gillette Venus Snap Razor
This is a genius idea - a small travel sized razor. Only annoying thing is that they don't have 'Embrace' blades here in Hong Kong. Hmmm...
Update: This is still going strong, 2 years later. I managed to find some blades that fit and this still accompanies me on my travels.

11. Bath & Body Works Pocket Bac
You can't have too many anti-bacterial gels.  One for every bag!

12. Chloe Rollerball Fragrance
13. Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Rollerball Fragrance
Why fiddle around with decanting perfume into atomisers when you can get these instead?

14. Lavanila - The Healthy Deodorant
I had absolutely no reason to get this apart from the fact it was travel sized. I just can't resist travel sized toiletries! Next time I travel, I'll already have my deodorant ready.
Update: I didn't get on with deodorant. For some weird and gross reason, it caused the skin in my armpits to go dark. Once I stopped using it, after a week or so my skin went back to normal.

15. Bumble and Bumble Hairdressers Invisible Oil Primer
Ok, another travel size purchase but also another a product I wanted to try before committing to the full-size version.
Update: I really like this. I felt it left my hair soft and smooth after I blow dried it. The only reason I haven't repurchased this is that it is more expensive here in Hong Kong.

16. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Ebony
First brow pencil I've ever tried and I think it'll be a monogamous relationship.
Update: I am still in a monogamous relationship with this brow product. It's been over two years now. The one thing I will say is that the plastic the pencil is made from is a bit weak. A couple of the pencils I've had have either cracked or the spoolie has broken off.

And that's it. That was all the beauty stuff I bought.

I did pick up a few other things, including some rings from Madewell - one of which I've already lost gah!  My other purchases were food items. How could I resist trying Birthday Cake M&Ms? But my favourite purchase out of everything - including the beauty stuff - was SPECULOOS COOKIE BUTTER from Trader Joes! This stuff is life changing.

So, that concludes the haul. I am pretty much set for beauty travel sized items now, but I wish I had bought more cookie butter.

  1. I need that primer!

    1. I love it! If you live near a Sephora or Hourglass stockist I would definitely recommend going to try it out.
